Montgomery County is rapidly growing as a global cybersecurity power center, with the cyber market as a whole estimated to grow from $122.45 billion in 2016 to $202.36 billion by 2021, according to the world’s largest market research firm, Market and Market. Montgomery County has the resources, cyber infrastructure and market intelligence in place to lead the way.

In the summer of 2016, the MCEDC board identified cybersecurity as a target industry, and commissioned a report by Amplifier Advisors entitled "Building a Cybersecurity Industry in Montgomery County." It provides guidance for MCEDC and Montgomery County to determine how best to support and expand the existing cybersecurity industry.

In November 2016, a group of local cybersecurity CEOs and experts was convened by MCEDC and tasked with vetting the Amplifier report and then recommending strategic initiatives that will put Montgomery County, MD “on the map” as a world-renowned cybersecurity ecosystem. The “Growing the Cybersecurity Industry in Montgomery County” report outlines the cyber workgroup’s five priorities.

Given Montgomery County’s proximity to the nation’s capital and the federal government, combined with our highly-educated workforce, we are well on the road to becoming the cyber capital of the world.
