Mobilize Montgomery Connects Federal Workers and Businesses with Resources

As Montgomery County residents and businesses navigate changes to the federal landscape, Montgomery County remains committed to supporting residents and businesses facing economic uncertainty during these challenging times.

On April 16, more than 1,400 jobseekers attended the University of Maryland’s Center for Democracy and Civic Engagement Career Fair in Silver Spring, Maryland. Hosted in partnership with state and local agencies, the event was a vital opportunity for displaced federal workers, and other jobseekers, to connect directly with employers that are actively hiring in Montgomery County and the surrounding areas.

This career fair is just one part of the county’s broader response to the ongoing federal changes, which have impacted many local residents and businesses. Mobilize Montgomery, a coalition between the County, the Maryland Department of Labor, WorkSource Montgomery, the Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation, the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, the City of Rockville, the City of Gaithersburg, the Maryland Women Business Center and many other local chambers of commerce, offers a central location for affected and potentially affected residents and businesses to access information on workforce development programs, job and resource fairs, and online webinars.

SkillUp Montgomery is one of the available workforce programs that county residents can access, offering over 200 professional certifications for six months at no cost. Additionally, local businesses with 20 employees or less can also use the program to upskill their staff. Teach Maryland, a state initiative by the Maryland Department of Education, helps participants transition into educational roles for Maryland Public Schools through financial incentives and programs.

As this is an ongoing effort to support the federal workforce, we encourage employers to visit mobilize-montgomery.com to learn how to get involved and stay informed about future initiatives.
