Montgomery County Investment Activity Accelerates Across the Energy and Life Sciences Sectors
Investment momentum continued across Montgomery County, Maryland in March 2026, with companies in the advanced energy and life sciences industries securing new capital.
One of the most notable announcements came from X-energy, a Rockville-based advanced small modular reactor (SMR) and fuel technology company. On March 20, the company filed to go public on the Nasdaq, marking a significant milestone in its growth trajectory. X-energy’s flagship Xe-100 reactor is designed to provide safe, reliable, and scalable clean energy solutions, underscoring Montgomery County’s role in advancing next-generation energy technologies. The news comes after the company celebrated a big win in December 2025, when it announced the company closed an oversubscribed Series D funding round of approximately $700 million, bringing the company’s total funding to just over $2 billion.
Investment in the life sciences industry also remained strong in March with Shuttle Pharmaceuticals Holdings, which is headquartered in Gaithersburg, completing a $1.12 million second public offering on March 9. The clinical-stage company is developing novel therapies designed to enhance the effectiveness of radiation therapy in cancer treatment. The successful offering reflects ongoing investor confidence in Montgomery County’s life sciences companies working to improve patient outcomes and expand treatment options.
Together, these deals demonstrate the continued strength of Montgomery County’s innovation-driven economy. From advanced nuclear energy to life-saving therapies, companies across sectors are attracting capital and strategic investment that supports growth and job creation throughout the region.
