Montgomery County-Based X-Energy Celebrates $700 million Series D Investment in November 

As global demand for reliable, clean-energy grows, Montgomery County continues to cement its position as a destination for the companies leading innovation in that space. One of the clearest examples is Rockville-based X-energy, a next-generation nuclear reactor and fuel technology company that is shaping the future of clean energy. 

X-energy celebrated another win last month, when it announced the company closed an oversubscribed Series D funding round of approximately $700 million, bringing the company’s total funding to just over $2 billion. X-energy expects to use the funding to help continue the expansion of its supply chain and commercial pipeline.

Investor interest in X-energy has been high recently and last week’s news follows a $500 million dollar investment in 2024 anchored by Amazon, and a $235 million Series C financing round in 2023.  

In July, the company announced a major investment in Montgomery County, by consolidating its two Rockville offices into a new 125,000-square-foot headquarters at Washingtonian Center in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The company plans to retain 260 full-time employees and create more than 525 new jobs over the next six years. These combined investments position X-energy for long-term growth while strengthening Maryland’s emerging leadership in advanced nuclear energy solutions.
