Montgomery County Council Approves Viva White Oak Development DistrictÂ
Last week, the Montgomery County Council unanimously approved the Viva White Oak Development District, unlocking new opportunities for housing, jobs, innovation, and investment in our community. LocatedâŻadjacent toâŻthe FDA headquarters and near Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center, Viva White Oak isâŻapproved for more thanâŻ12 million square feetâŻof mixed-use development. The Viva White Oak site is aâŻ$2.8âŻbillionâŻinvestment featuring more thanâŻ3 million square feetâŻof lab space, office/medical office, retail, and up to 5,000 quality residences.âŻWith a strategic focus on the life sciences andâŻbiohealthâŻindustries, Viva White Oak stands out with the promise toâŻexpand the alreadyâŻsignificantâŻlife sciencesâŻclusterâŻin theâŻCountyâŻand isâŻanticipatedâŻto create at least 9,000 jobs.âŻâŻ
Once completed, the project will add significant new capacity for life sciences and related industries, while also bringing housing and amenities to the eastern part of the county. The project will be transformational for the east region of the county and is expected to create at least 9,000 jobs.âŻ
