Prashant Panchal brings more than 17 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, combining knowledge across science and business. His ability to connect these areas enables him to offer practical insights that support business outcomes. Prashant’s journey in the biopharmaceutical sector began in science, where he worked as a scientist. His interest in broader impact and a more comprehensive understanding of the industry led him to transition into project management. Over time, his experience expanded into Project, Portfolio, Capacity, and Business Operations, reflecting his adaptability and strategic mindset.

Today, as the Head of Portfolio, Capacity, and Business Operations in Biopharmaceutical Development at AstraZeneca, Prashant oversees capacity planning, capital expenditure, contracts, portfolio, governance, and business operations for a department comprising more than 1,100 employees supporting over 100 drug projects. Before joining AstraZeneca, Prashant gained broad experience at organizations such as Eisai Pharmaceuticals, Teva Biopharmaceuticals USA, and AGC Biologics, one of the largest Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMO) for biopharmaceuticals. His diverse professional journey has given him a strong understanding of the industry and its complexities. In addition to his professional endeavors, Prashant is committed to fostering industry-academic collaboration, next-generation workforce development, and the local biopharmaceutical ecosystem.

He also serves on the board of The Pinkney Innovation Complex for Science and Technology at Montgomery College (PIC MC), where he contributes business insights, and on the BioHealth Innovation board, where he shares his industry perspective and supports the local biopharmaceutical ecosystem. Prashant enjoys mentoring students and young professionals, helping them explore career paths and develop their potential. Prashant’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences with a focus on Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics from the University of Maryland. He also holds a Master of Science in Biotechnology Management and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Maryland Global Campus.
