Made in Montgomery County: How Omega 3 Nutrition is Expanding Access to Healthy Food
Founded by Bright Djamba in 2019, Omega 3 Nutrition is a true definition of a Montgomery County success story. Built on the belief that the food people eat everyday matters, Omega 3 Nutrition is helping make nutritious, convenient food more accessible to families across the country, all while manufacturing it all right here in Montgomery County, Maryland.
A Mission Built on Better Nutrition
Omega 3 Nutrition began with the idea that people shouldn’t have to choose between convenience and quality when it comes to food.
“I started Omega 3 because I genuinely believe that what you eat everyday matters—and that people shouldn’t have to choose between food that’s convenient and food that’s actually good for them,” said Djamba. “We make granola bars and cereal products right here in Montgomery County, and everything we do is centered on getting quality, nutritious food into people’s hands.”
What started as a small, scrappy operation has grown into a full-scale food manufacturing business with a dedicated production team, distributor relationships, and investors supporting its growth. The company’s products now reach more than 1.5 million consumers, many of them students in Montgomery County’s K–12 school breakfast programs. Recently, the company reached a big milestone by expanding into the travel sector—American Airlines has added Omega 3 to their snack baskets, and they show no sign of slowing down.
“Right now we’re in the middle of a big push on the manufacturing side: we’re bringing in advanced pouch filling and packaging equipment from Japan, and we’re working with attorneys on a patent for a spoon-in-pouch cereal design that I think is genuinely going to turn heads in the industry,” Djamba said. “We’re not just making food—we’re rethinking how it reaches the consumer.”
Rooted in Montgomery County
For Djamba, building Omega 3 Nutrition in Montgomery County was a natural choice.
“Montgomery County is home—it’s where I planted roots and where it made sense to build this company,” he said. “You’ve got world-class access to distribution corridors up and down the East Coast, a workforce that is genuinely diverse and hardworking, and a business community that wants to see you succeed.”
Location has played a critical role in supporting the company’s logistics and operations. Being positioned in Montgomery County allows Omega 3 Nutrition to efficiently connect with distributors and retailers throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, ensuring products move quickly from production to consumers.
Beyond logistics, the community itself has been central to the company’s growth. “Our team is multilingual and reflects the real diversity of this community. That’s not something I take for granted,” Djamba said. “It makes us better at what we do, and it’s something I genuinely care about as a business owner. Montgomery County gave us the environment to build that kind of team, and I’m grateful for it.”
Local Support That Fuels Growth
As Omega 3 Nutrition has expanded, the company has benefited from Montgomery County programs designed to help local businesses scale. Djamba noted that grants supporting relocation and workforce development, like the County’s MOVE grant and WorkSource Montgomery grants, helped strengthen operations during key growth periods. Support from MCEDC also played an important role in helping the company receive the Accelerating Community Excellence (ACE) Loan, which provides accessible financing to small, minority-owned, women-owned, and underserved businesses in Montgomery County.
Today, all of Omega 3 Nutrition’s production staff are based in Montgomery County, underscoring the company’s commitment to local job creation and community investment.
Looking Ahead
Omega 3 Nutrition’s future is focused on continued innovation, expansion, and community impact. “I’m genuinely excited about where we’re headed,” Djamba said. “The investments we’re making right now—in equipment, in packaging innovation, in intellectual property—are all pointing toward a bigger, more capable Omega 3.”
Even as the company grows, Djamba remains invested in Montgomery County. “At the end of the day, I want Omega 3 to be known as a Montgomery County success story,” he added. “I want us to be hiring more people from this community, working with local suppliers, and putting a product on shelves that people are proud to see made right here. That’s the vision, and we’re actively building toward it.”
