AeroVironment Opens Next-Generation Manufacturing Facility in Germantown, MD

Maryland continues to cement its position as a national leader in defense technology with the opening of AeroVironment (AV) new state-of-the-art facility in Germantown. On July 16, Maryland Governor Wes Moore joined Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, County Council President Kate Stewart, and AV leadership to cut the ribbon on the $12.5 million, 57,000-square-foot research and manufacturing center—a major milestone for both the company and the state.
This new facility is expected to create over 200 high-paying, high-tech jobs in Montgomery County, expanding AV’s Maryland workforce to 600 employees and deepening its commitment to the region. The site features advanced engineering labs, collaborative spaces, and production areas designed to accelerate mission-critical technologies, including AV’s PANTHER hypersonic tracking system, the Argus perimeter security solution, and cutting-edge AI applications.
“AV’s reinvestment in Maryland strengthens our state’s position as a global hub for aerospace and defense,” said Governor Moore. “By expanding its footprint in Germantown, AV continues to drive innovation in cyber, aviation, and emerging tech—creating high-skilled jobs and keeping Maryland at the forefront of cutting-edge research and discovery.”
AV’s leaderships agrees, with Deane Edelman, Vice President of Real Estate and Facility Operations adding: “This facility is more than a building—it is a hub for innovation, collaboration, and mission-driven work that will shape the future of defense technology.”
State and local partners played a key role in making the expansion possible. The Maryland Department of Commerce provided a $1 million conditional loan and a $50,000 workforce development grant, while Montgomery County contributed a $100,000 conditional grant through its Economic Development Fund.
As Maryland continues to attract top-tier defense and technology firms, AV’s continued investment in Montgomery County is a powerful example of Maryland’s commitment to innovation and economic growth.
