X-energy Consolidates Its Headquarters in Montgomery County, Maryland

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD – X-energy, a leading nuclear reactor and fuel design technology company focused on clean energy generation, is consolidating its two Rockville offices into a new 125,000-square-foot headquarters at Washingtonian Center in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The company plans to retain 260 full-time employees and create more than 525 new jobs over the next six years.

“We’re excited that X-energy is doubling down on Montgomery County,” said Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich. “This expansion is a win for our residents, bringing hundreds of good-paying jobs and strengthening our position as a center for innovation in clean energy and advanced technology. I appreciate Governor Moore’s leadership in making sure Maryland remains competitive for these types of transformative projects, and I want to thank X-energy for choosing to keep growing right here in Montgomery County.”

The Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation (MCEDC) has worked with X-energy for nearly a year, supporting the company in understanding local incentive programs, exploring property options, and connecting with local partners and workforce resources.

“We are thrilled that X-energy has chosen to remain in Montgomery County,” said MCEDC Board Chair Elana Fine. “This is the result of a strong partnership with X-energy, built over many months of close collaboration. Together we aimed to align their growth goals with the unique assets and incentives Montgomery County offers, including the MOVE Grant and the Montgomery County Job Creation Fund. This decision reflects the shared commitment to innovation that defines our business community.”

The City of Gaithersburg is also awarding a grant from its Economic Development Toolbox program to supplement X-energy’s capital investment. “X-energy has chosen a high-profile location here,” said Gaithersburg Mayor Jud Ashman. “Visibility from I-270 and the wide variety of amenities offered at the surrounding Rio center have created a unique environment for the company’s workforce.”

In addition to its new Montgomery County headquarters, the company is also opening a 90,000-square-foot facility in Frederick dedicated to non-nuclear testing and prototyping of advanced reactor components.

This expansion underscores X-energy’s commitment to the region’s innovation ecosystem and highly skilled talent pool. “X-energy was founded in Maryland, and we are proud to call this state our home as we enter a period of unprecedented growth,” said X-energy Chief Executive Officer J.
