MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD – Last week, Montgomery County and the Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation (MCEDC) recognized Maryland Economic Development Week, an initiative developed by the Maryland Economic Development Association (MEDA) to increase understanding of the contribution economic development has to the state’s business climate, job retention and growth, tax base, and the overall quality of life in Maryland.

Throughout the week, MCEDC staff coordinated business visits with companies across key industries, alongside Montgomery County Government officials, representatives from the Maryland Department of Commerce, Rockville city government, Rockville Economic Development, Inc., and local chambers. The visits offered an opportunity to recognize businesses’ contributions to both the local and state economy as well as the chance to check-in and understand their current needs. This collaborative approach between local organizations that support companies across all sectors demonstrates the support and commitment that is available to Montgomery County businesses as they grow.

So far this year, Montgomery County companies have attracted a total of $718 million in venture capital and private equity investment and continues to be a top destination for life sciences, technology, quantum, and AI. Almost 20 local businesses were visited last week, including leading pharmaceutical giant Amgen, multinational hospitality brand Choice Hotels, and laser-based equipment pioneer Automated Precision. During the visits, representatives learned more about the companies’ operations and had the opportunity to highlight available programs that can support their growth—such as the Job Creation Fund, which offers up to $500,000 for eligible companies creating five or more full time jobs in Montgomery County.

“Economic Development Week is a moment to reflect on the work that builds our local economy, shapes our community, and helps define our future,” said Marc Elrich, Montgomery County Executive “In Montgomery County that work happens every day. With the support of our state leadership and alongside partner organizations, we continue to invest in our future, and we have had many great projects come to fruition this year, from East County to Upcounty. Now more than ever, it’s crucial for Montgomery County employers, investors, industry leaders, and residents to come together to unite in our shared vision for a stronger economy for everyone.”

“Maryland Economic Development Week is a great opportunity to celebrate the diverse local companies that fuel Montgomery County’s economy,” said Elana Fine, MCEDC Board Chair. “These businesses represent the innovation that makes our county a leading destination for talent and investment. We’re proud to support them as they grow and expand here.”
