Laurie Boyer Babb, CEcD

Director of Economic Development, Business Retention and Expansion

Laurie serves as MCEDC’s Director of Economic Development, Business Retention & Expansion, focusing on supporting existing companies in Montgomery County grow and expand here. She also serves as manager of the VLT Loan Fund program which is a great tool to assist small businesses with working capital to grow their companies.

Laurie brings more than 20 years’ experience in economic development and has held multiple key positions within the county. She was the Economic Development Manager for the Montgomery County Government, responsible for overseeing targeted economic development incentive programs, administering contracts with vendors that provided economic development services on behalf of the County, and for supporting local businesses.  Prior to that, Laurie was the Executive Director of Rockville Economic Development, Inc. (REDI), responsible for business attraction, growth, and entrepreneurship in the City of Rockville.  Prior to that, she also served as the Executive Director for the Frederick County Office of Economic Development.

Laurie earned a bachelor’s degree in Communications/Spanish from Juniata College in Pennsylvania, along with a master’s degree in Communication Studies from West Virginia University. She has held a Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) designation since 2006. A graduate of Leadership Montgomery, Class of 2014, she is also a member and past president of the Maryland Economic Development Association (MEDA), a member of NAIOP MD|DC serving on the NAIOP Leadership Committee, and a member of CREW MD Suburban.
