At International Investment Summit MCEDC Urges Participants to Select MoCo
Montgomery County made a big splash at the recent SelectUSA Investment Summit held at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center Hotel in National Harbor. The event is one of the premier venues for interacting with foreign investors who are looking to gain a foothold, or grow their imprint in U.S. markets.
MCEDC took full advantage of the Summit taking place so close by. We created a new, inviting floor map of the county to illustrate our proximity to D.C., as well as the commanding presence the county has in industries that are attractive to overseas investors and companies - namely biohealth, cybersecurity and information technology. More on the county’s international presence can be found here.
MCEDC representatives had direct access to the more than 400 attendees at the Summit. In fact, they spoke to many of the top targets before the show even began. MCEDC President & CEO David Petr and Director of Business Recruitment Spiros Balntas, CEcD participated in over 100 gatherings during the Summit, including a boat tour of D.C. that allowed for individual conversations with over a dozen prospective foreign investors.
International Summit attendees hailed from China, Pakistan, Korea and much of Southeast Asia. Balntas, who speaks four languages, was able to create a direct connection with many of the attendees and learn about their specific interests in operating within MoCo.
Participants have announced more than $20 billion in foreign direct investment into the U. S. since the Summit began in 2014. Montgomery County is already a hotbed for foreign investment, especially in the county’s robust cyber, IT and biohealth sectors. MCEDC’s goal for this conference was to cement our reputation and create new relationships that will unlock the doors to additional partnerships and economic growth in future years.
