Rockville, Md. — Following the competitive award received by One Montgomery Green and Bethesda Green from the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Inclusive Energy Innovation Prize, Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation (MCEDC) has announced that it will partner in these joint sustainability efforts to support local businesses, entrepreneurship, and job creation.

The $200,000 DOE award for Community Engagement for a Cleaner Energy Economy combines Bethesda Green’s nationally recognized, sustainability-driven entrepreneurial programming with One Montgomery Green’s community engagement and environmental outreach to advance climate and energy technologies in Wheaton, Maryland for the benefit of everyone in Montgomery County.

MCEDC’s partnership includes an additional investment of $60,000, staff support provided by select business development representatives and a leadership role in the project’s  senior management team. As part of the initial one-year grant, MCEDC will assist in multiple ways, including: organizing an information clearinghouse for Wheaton businesses to gain access to the region’s many available Green Savings opportunities; conducting a series of hybrid in-person/online training sessions for the targeted business sectors in Wheaton to help make necessary business improvements; helping connect businesses to financial incentives and resources; and promoting the Wheaton Sustainable Innovation Zone throughout the State of Maryland and nationwide.

“Montgomery County is a national leader in responding to the challenges of climate change and advancing sustainability efforts,” said Bill Tompkins, incoming President & CEO of MCEDC. “We are delighted to become a full partner with One Montgomery Green and Bethesda Green, both leaders in climate action, greenhouse gas emission reduction, and eco-entrepreneurship.”
